Upgrade K-tron Feeder

Recently, M&F Tech Services successfully completed the upgrade of a K-Tron KCM2 to the newer KCM3 controller at one of our customer’s production facilities.
The objective of the upgrade was to modernize the feeding system, improve reliability, and ensure long-term availability of spare parts and support.

During the project, the existing feeder system was carefully assessed and prepared for the upgrade. Our team handled the mechanical modifications, system integration, and commissioning to ensure the new configuration would integrate seamlessly with the existing process equipment.

The upgrade to the KCM3 platform provides several advantages, including improved control capabilities, better long-term serviceability, and compatibility with modern automation systems. By modernizing the feeder while keeping the existing installation largely intact, the customer was able to benefit from improved performance while minimizing downtime and investment costs.

As part of the upgrade, the original DC motor was replaced with a modern servo motor to improve control and overall system performance. Servo motors offer higher accuracy, faster response times, and better torque control compared to traditional DC motors. This results in more stable and precise dosing, improved process consistency.
Because servo motors don’t require carbon brushes they offer greater reliability and less maintenance compared to DC motors.
